While there is a free app, the limitation is that footage can only be reviewed for two days, which is limiting for cases where an insurance claim or police review is needed as these processes can take much longer. The premium version of the app stores a driver’s trip history in the Driver Cloud for up to one year. Through this partnership, we’re providing the first month for free, and then 75% off the premium version of the dash cam app., access, and sharing capabilities via the Driver Cloud.
Driver partners regularly tell us that a dash cam can provide them with additional security and peace of mind. However, buying a device that meets their requirements can be expensive, with drivers citing the cost as the main obstacle to getting one. By providing discounted access to premium dash-cam functionality, our partnership with Driver Technologies ensures they can access the tools they need to create safer environments for themselves and their passengers at a discounted rate.
With the partnership, Bolt aims to help reduce safety incidents and support driver partners with evidence for customer support and the police. This can also be useful in insurance claims in case of accidents as both the interior and exterior of the car will be recorded. Driver Technologies will also provide Bolt drivers with IT support, as well as data handling and processing support.
This dash cam app has been developed to be multi-device compatible in order to scale around the world. As some older Android devices don’t have dual processors for simultaneous internal and external recording, drivers should check if their phone is compatible. We will gather feedback from driver partners as part of this pilot and assess next steps based on this.
There is a free version of the app that drivers can download, and they can also upgrade to a discounted (75% off) version of the premium app for $2.99 USD/month. The first month of premium will be provided for free to Bolt drivers. The Premium app provides unlimited trip storage, access, and sharing capabilities via the Driver Cloud.
The subscription will need to be purchased like all Apple and Google apps, through the relevant app store and with a card payment.
The app only relies on data connectivity for uploading. When connectivity is unavailable, or if “uploading over cellular” is not toggled on, the data stores locally to the device until WiFi is connected.
In line with privacy and legal requirements, Bolt does not have access to real-time dash cam video. The driver owns their own data. Trips can easily be shared with the touch of a button, should the driver decide to share.
This is just one of a number of safety features in Bolt’s in-app safety toolkit which includes many features that take action in real time. Other features that riders and drivers have access to include trip sharing for real-time location sharing with friends and family, the Emergency Assist button to help riders quickly and discreetly alert emergency services or private security partners, and Ride Check alerts that alert Bolt’s Safety Team to unexpected changes in a car’s journey, for example, if it remains still for too long.
